For the 6th time in a row the Berlin Dyke*March will take place on 27 July 2018. On the eve of Pride Berlin lesbians and their friends* parade through the streets demonstrating for “more lesbian visibility and zest for life”.
Against the backdrop of the low lesbian visibility in society, media and even within the LBGT community there has been lesbian rallies and marches around the pride season in the USA and Canada since the 1980s. The very first Dyke March took place in 1981 in Vancouver, whereas the first nationwide Dyke March took place in the USA in 1993 in Washington D.C. with more than 20000 participants*.
For their 10th anniversary the L-Mag – The Magazine for Lesbians made a dream come true when initiating the first Dyke* March in Berlin in 2013. In doing so an entire movement was launched: Since 2015 there has been Dyke* Marches in Cologne (2015), Hamburg (2016) and Heidelberg (2017) and newbie Nuremberg will have its debut this year!
With changing routes (this year’s route is yet to be announced) the Dyke* March starts at 18:30 with its classic “Dykes* On Bikes” motorcycle parade and ends with a brilliant closing party. Everyone who wants to show their solidarity and take it to the streets for lesbian visibility is welcome to join: lesbians in all facets, transgender, as well as their girlfriends* and boyfriends* from all orientations, ages and backgrounds. The Dyke* March regards itself as a perfect addition to the CSD-weekend.
In accordance with the incredible atmosphere the last couple of years the organizers* hope to see
even more participants* this year, who – either on a motorbike or on foot – will contribute to making the Berlin Dyke* March a creative, strident and buoyant demonstration – because “we are not done by far!”
