The Berliner Aids-Hilfe e.V. (BAH) was founded as a non-profit association in 1985 by a group of self-help activists with the objective to inform Berliners in dealing with HIV, STIs and life with HIV.
The self-help organisation has a wide range of services for people with HIV. This includes supporting people with HIV/AIDS as well as their relatives and loved ones in in all matters in life, which can be affected by the HIV infection. It also includes the extensive prevention work being carried out in the counselling centre, on the phone, in correctional facilities and in the course of youth prevention work.
Through information, counselling and education the 18 full-time and 11 marginally employed people at the Berliner Aids-Hilfe are working deeply committed in the fight against discrimination of people with HIV.
About 250 association members support the Berliner Aids-Hilfe financially, but without the engagement of the 200 voluntary workers the wide range of services would not be possible.
