Information

On 27 May 2008 the memorial designed by the Danish-Norwegian artist duo Elmgreen and Dragset was inaugurated. The initiative “Remember the Homosexual Victims of National Socialism” and the Lesbian and Gay Federation of Germany jointly called for the establishment of the memorial, the corresponding resolution of the German Bundestag followed in December 2003.
The memorial plaque also recollects the continuing persecution of homosexuals in the Federal Republic of Germany and in the German Democratic Republic after the war. Inside the memorial a film is displayed with changing clips of a kissing scene between respectively two men and two women. Time and again, especially during the first years after its inauguration the memorial has been the target of homophobic attacks and mischievous damages.
