Information

“Ich bin ein Berliner” were the legendary words spoken by John F. Kennedy at Schöneberg Town Hall on 26 June 1963. The town hall was built in 1914 and from 1949 to 1991 it was the official seat of the governing Mayor of West Berlin. Berlin’s House of Representatives met here until 1993. As it is the town hall of the queer district Schöneberg a striking number of registered partnerships were entered here. It’s therefore also not surprising that the first gay marriage after the legislative amendment from 30 June 2017 was entered here on 1 October 17.
Since July 2017 a rainbow flag has been waving permanently in front of the town hall. On the Thursday prior to Berlin Pride rainbow flags are raised on all flagpoles. On the Day of Berlin Pride an additional flag is waving on the tower.
